As temperatures fall and the days get shorter, thoughts turn to snuggling up indoors with a hot beverage and a good old movie. But just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the great outdoors. So wrap up warm and get ready to discover some awesome places to stay and explore this winter.

OK, so this is probably one for those who really love being outdoors, but there’s so much to see and do with the whole family it’s a shame not to try it. You just have to be a little creative. So grab your wellies, put on your hats and get ready to enjoy nature. Magical winter woodlands are open up and down the country, where lanterns light the way and hot drinks can be enjoyed under the stars. One of the most enchanting woodland walks has to be in Scotland at the Enchanted Forest, where innovative light shows and aerial artists take centre stage.

Winter Camping

This is some people’s idea of a nightmare: trying to sleep as you freeze outdoors. But from Scotland to the south coast of England, there are plenty of campsites that stay open throughout the winter. Many campsites also welcome caravans and motorhomes too, so make sure your insurance is up to date and get ready to enjoy a winter adventure.
There are lots of winter campsites that offer alternative accommodation too, so you don’t have to stay in a tent or motorhome. Take Blackberry Wood for example; here you can stay in comfort in the curvy cabin, helicopter or holiday bus! And of course there are campsites with log cabins for those who want that authentic Alpine experience. Some great winter campsites can be found using our Campsite Finder, including Blackberry Wood, so take a look.

Take to the snow
This isn’t technically outside, but it sure feels like it! If all you want for Christmas is snow then head to the Chill Factore in Manchester or the Snow Dome in Birmingham. With Santa’s winter wonderland, snow parks and ski/snowboard lessons, who need the Alps? As soon as you step onto the snow the magic comes to life. With temperatures set to below freezing and even an après ski bar, it’s the perfect winter adventure – just remember to wrap up.
