Over recent years we have been running the ‘Trucker of the Year’ competition, in association with Trucking Magazine. We all know how hard the UK’s truckers work to keep our economy ticking, that’s why we decided to celebrate the brilliant job that they do and give them the recognition they deserve.
We take a look back to our 2015 winner Kara, and also catch up with her to see how she’s getting on.
Our 2015 Winner: Kara Rouse
The ‘Trucker of the Year’ 2015 competition had a brilliant response and we saw so many wonderful entries. But one nominee that really stood out was Kara Rouse.
It was a pleasure to announce Kara as ‘Trucker of the Year’ 2015. She received many nominations for her kindness, charity work and trucking skills:
We were also sent these brilliant pictures of Kara with her pink truck:
Catching up with Kara…
We caught up with Kara recently to find out what she’s been up to since Trucker of the Year and what she enjoyed most about winning Trucker of the Year 2015.
Looking back, what was the best thing about winning Trucker of the Year?
I think it created more awareness of female drivers and I know a lot of my friends want to be drivers…it also made me realise what nice friends I have out there in the trucking world.
What have you been up to since you won the competition? We see you’ve been busy!
Since winning the competition I’ve done a new calendar…I’ve also done some TV work that’s due out in the summer this year, which I’m looking forward to. It was so much fun!
I’m also involved with the M6 Toll and the RHA who are running a competition to get more women into the haulage industry…I’m their ambassador.
What are your plans for the rest of 2017?
Well, I know I will be making sure I get a holiday for a start…I don’t really have any more plans just yet for 2017. But I’m sure I’ll be kept busy selling calendars!
If you could give one piece of advice to future Trucker of the Year winners, what would it be?
My advice would be always be yourself because that’s what makes people vote for you.
