It’s nearly 2016 and it’s been two months since our Trucker of the Year competition – we can hardly believe where the time’s gone!
After several whirlwind weeks of interviews, TV and press coverage we thought it was about time we caught up with our winner Kara Rouse to see how she’s been getting on.
Catching up with Kara was fantastic, though finding the time was challenging given her new found fame! With features in The Express, Derbyshire Times and many more publications over the last couple of months, she’s been one busy lady.
Eventually, we managed to have a chat about her plans for 2016 and what the end of 2015 had been like for her since winning the first ever Trucker of the Year title.
SH: What have you been up to since winning Trucker of the Year?
KR: Mainly relaxing, although I have been contacted by lots of people because of Trucker of the Year and I can say there are many great opportunities that have come from it. So watch this space for 2016!
SH: What was your favourite thing about winning Trucker of the Year?
KR: Just that so many people think so highly of me. After all, I’m just being me.
SH: Did you enjoy your experience on BBC Radio Derby?
KR: Yes, they were very welcoming and it was lovely.
SH: Have you been recognised anywhere as Trucker of the Year?
KR: Yes, everywhere even in the chip shop – someone said “do you know who this is, she should have free chips!”
SH: What Trucking events will you be attending in 2016?
KR: I’ll definitely be going to Yeovil again with the family. It’s a really friendly place, the best one I’ve been to.
SH: What are your plans for 2016, any charity work or New Year’s resolutions?
KR: Well I have a lot planned, including making more videos.
SH: Can we expect a 2017 calendar?
KR: Most definitely after them being such a success in 2016! It’s great to raise so much money for charity.
SH: When can we expect to see the next Kara Rouse YouTube video?
KR: Well they’re more like Facebook videos and I will be making two a week again shortly, once I have a little more spare time.
SH: How did it feel to be featured in so many great publications?
KR: Amazing – seeing my face on Trucking Magazine is just amazing.
SH: What would be your advice for future Trucker of the Year winners?
KR: Just be yourself, it’s so much nicer achieving something because you’re just being yourself.
