The last bank holiday before Christmas is fast approaching, that’s right, the LAST one! Many of you will be planning an extra-long lie in or spending your extra day googling hangover cures. Robin Hood festival
Every year the heroic outlaw of Nottingham pays a visit to Sherwood Forest accompanied by his merry men to the Robin Hood Festival. There is plenty to do for the little ones including medieval music, story-telling, and performances all-day-long. You’ll be enthralled by the abundance of medieval entertainment including strolling street performers and the battle between Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham. You’ll also get the chance to try your hand at archery near Major Oak as well as taking part in some wild challenges set by the RSPB and Woodland Trust.

Blair Castle Horse Trials
Equestrian fanatics will revel at the Blair Castle Horse Trials! The event showcases equestrian sport from Pony Club all the way up to Olympic champions with a variety of equestrian competitions to be enjoyed. If spending your weekend ‘horsing around’ is not what you had in mind then don’t worry, there is plenty to see and do around the estate. Bruadar Country Fair takes place on Saturday and Sunday and displays plenty of countryside pursuits from pig racing to tractor parades. The event also has over 200 trade stands that offer something for everyone.

World Bog Snorkelling Championships
If you’re looking to really put yourself to the limit through a test of skill and endurance, then forget the London marathon and get yourself down to the internationally acclaimed peat bog of Waen Rhydd!
Here you’ll find the enthralling and unusual world-famous Bog Snorkelling Championships (North East of Rhandirmwyn Campsite). The event attracts individuals across the globe and spans the entire August bank holiday weekend, showcasing a range of weird and wonderful events. The event is in its 33rd year and like all great ideas, owes its origins to the local pub. There’s plenty more going on such as food stalls, real ale and cider, live music and a bouncy castle for the little ones.
The event takes place on the bank holiday weekend (25th- 26th of August 2018) at 9:30 am.
Hilden Beer and Music Festival
If googling hangover cures on Monday morning is just what you had in mind then fear not, the Hilden Beer and Music Festival has over 35 different types of beer to choose from. The family-run microbrewery boasts a rich history and is host to Ireland’s oldest beer festival reaching its 36th anniversary this year. The festival showcases the finest music accompanied by an extensive range of ales, beers, spirits and delicious food. The festival is set to be bigger than ever this year with more stages and plenty more family-friendly activities for the children to enjoy.
The festival starts on the 24th of August at 16:00 and runs until the 26th at 23:00.
Notting Hill Carnival
If you’re looking for the biggest party in London then the Notting Hill Carnival will be right up your street. The Carnival is a huge celebratory parade of Caribbean culture, with extravagant costumed performers and spectacular floats.
The parade begins in West London and proceeds along the streets to the sound of calypso music and steel bands, with an array of delicious food stalls along the way. Saturday the 25th of August is Panorama, which is host to a steel band music competition, street food and Caribbean themed entertainment. Sunday plays host to J’Ouvert and Children’s day, with plenty of family activities on offer.
