It’s great to just jump in your motorhome and head off for a simple, down-to-earth holiday. But if you don’t plan it properly then things can go wrong – and your kids/guests/partner will soon tell you about it! So how can you make the most of your break, stay relaxed and keep everyone happy?
Well, here are some tips to help you do just that:
Happiness is the key
Think about everyone you’re taking with you. It’s their break as well as yours so make sure you find a place that has all the entertainment everyone wants. After all, there’s no point in hiking for miles and miles if your kids can’t keep up, or going to museums if they’re bored senseless (worse still, they drag you to a fun fair…). So make sure you find a campsite that has something for everyone.
There are lots of brilliant ones out there and our campsite finder can help you find them.
Don’t let a grey sky get you down
You’re in the UK so a little rain is going to pay you a visit – inevitably on the week you go away. So prepare for a day or two inside with enough games, books and fun things to do (this is where the iPad/laptop/iPhone can come in handy) or just pull on the wellies and kagools and go for it!
Space for everyone
A motorhome can get a little cramped so make sure each person has their own cupboard, bed, shelf etc they can own and look after. Kids especially can store their books and their games, and it gives them a little sense of security when they’re away from their own home.
Work together
A holiday is for relaxing, of course, but a motorhome is not the biggest space and when it’s even a little untidy and it can look a right mess. So give everyone their own tasks to do every day like the washing up or making the beds. Keeping everyone involved makes the cleaning and tidying go quickly – leaving more time for fun.
Plan ahead
It is nice to see and do new things when on holiday but do plan your days out properly. Check opening times of attractions, check age and height restrictions so the kids aren’t disappointed, make sure there is parking for your motorhome, and see what food is on offer to make sure everyone is catered for. Doing this will save you hours of stress, extra driving and unhappy kids!
Take a break
Drive as little as possible when you get to your destination. After all, you’ve come for a break so don’t end up driving for miles every day. Bring bikes, go for walks, take a boat trip, play golf, go swimming – just make the most of your time off from work and get out in the open air.
Stick to these rules and you’ll have a great time – but hang on, who needs rules? It’s your holiday after all so make your own! Let us know what works for you and tell us about them on our Facebook page now.
