Fleet Insurance
If you’re hoping to insure multiple vehicles for your business, fleet insurance is what you need.
This type of insurance is sometimes known as fleet and haulage insurance, which covers multi-vehicle companies and businesses under a single policy. It is particularly practical as the fleet cover means you only have one renewal date as your vehicles are all under the same policy.
In a nutshell, fleet insurance is usually cheaper, flexible, and relatively hassle-free. To find a quote, contact us at 0800 0815 025 for a chat with a member of our team. We’ll use our decades of experience as insurance brokers to find you the most competitive fleet insurance quote available on the market.

What is fleet insurance?
Fleet insurance is a simple way to insure two or more motor vehicles under one policy for a company. There are no restrictions to the type of business which can have a fleet policy, but the most common industries that require it include haulage companies and taxi firms.
How many vehicles do I need to qualify?
A fleet Insurance policy must have a minimum of three plus vehicles, but there’s no maximum amount set in a policy.
What can I use my vehicles for?
The type of cover you need can differ depending on the policy requirements of your business.
We can offer cover for the following:
- Social Domestic & Pleasure use
- Carriage of goods for Hire and Reward
- Carriage of own goods
What type of cover can I expect in my fleet insurance policy?
Insuring your vehicles as a fleet can save your business money while still having optimum coverage for your vehicles. We can offer all levels of cover, including comprehensive, third-party fire and theft, third-party only, laid up, and any mix of these.
Even though policies will vary, it’s still helpful to know what to expect from your insurance policy – especially when it covers your livelihood. Here’s our jargon-busting breakdown of basic fleet and haulage insurance cover that may be available:
Third-Party Only: This is the baseline type of fleet insurance that provides coverage in the event of third-party damage to property. Liability for injury to vehicle passengers and others is also included within this policy. Third-Party Only does not include cover for glass damage, medical expenses, and personal accident.
Third-party fire and theft: This policy is an upgraded version of the above. Along with Third-Party Only, this type of cover includes fire and theft. Exclusions are roughly the same. However, this policy will include cover for damage to your vehicle in the event of a fire, lightning, or self-ignition.
Comprehensive cover: Included is everything above and more. Along with third-party, fire, and theft, your fleet will be covered for accidental damage.
Will I get a no-claims bonus on a fleet insurance policy?
Instead of a no-claims bonus, you will accrue a Fleet Claims Experience (also known as a CCE or Confirmed Claims Experience). This acts as a record of vehicle numbers and claims amounts.
What type of vehicles can I insure in my fleet?
Our fleet policies cater for differing vehicle types, and some will even allow for the addition of a small plant. The most common vehicles we provide fleet insurance for include:
- Private hire cars
- Public hire vehicles
- Heavy goods vehicles (HGV)
We can provide fleet insurance for almost any type of vehicle. Call us on 0800 0815 025 to speak to a team member and see if you can find an option to suit your requirements.
What vehicles are not included in fleet insurance?
Some insurers will have a list of vehicles and transport they do not cover under their fleet insurance policies. These types of vehicles are usually smaller, such as motorbikes or forklifts.
Am I covered to drive other vehicles?
Unfortunately, you will not have a ‘drive other vehicles’ extension on your insurance – the cover will only be for advised and confirmed vehicles.
How to reduce fleet insurance costs?
When taking out insurance, it is essential to consider the risks posed to your drivers and vehicles in the daily activities of your business.
The less likelihood of potential risk, the cheaper your insurance will be. Running a business can be costly, so to ensure your fleet insurance is budget-friendly, here are some tips on how to get more affordable insurance:
- Hire drivers with experience. Drivers who have been on the road for longer will better understand the hazards they will encounter. While we can find insurance to cover drivers under 25, it is usually pricier.
- Be safe. Having a sense of security is often why people take out insurance cover and extras. However, business owners must take steps to ensure their headquarters and vehicle are both secure. Some insurers will consider safeguarding actions when providing a quote if they view your business as acting responsibly.
- Install dashcams. These handy gadgets are becoming popular for safety and surveillance purposes. Some insurers may offer cheaper insurance if they know you have a dashcam because it is an almost certain way to prove what happened and who is at fault in the event of an accident. This footage will ultimately save an insurer time and money, which can benefit your quote.
- Go green. Electric and hybrid cars are not just a fad. An electric or hybrid vehicle can reduce your carbon footprint, but it may also do the same for your costs with a few insurers.
Who can drive the vehicles on my fleet insurance?
Most fleet policies are usually arranged on an ‘any authorised driver’ basis, meaning anyone can drive with the permission of the company/directors.
However, fleet insurance policies can be tailored to individual needs. Each one will have its own driver criteria and terms, which should be checked carefully to ensure all drivers are legally covered.
The standard driver criteria for fleet insurance would be an authorised driver with at least two years of road experience, roughly 25 to 69 years old, and have had three consecutive years of residency in the country.
Not every insurer will cover drivers under 25 as they’re viewed as having less driving experience, which poses a higher risk. We can provide fleet insurance cover for younger drivers, but financially, it’s essential to consider that premiums can be significantly higher for drivers under 25.
Who do the vehicles have to be registered to?
The vehicles must be registered with the company owner. In the case of a limited company, the vehicle must be registered with the company itself.
Do you offer family insurance policies?
As a commercial motor insurance specialist, we can only provide fleet insurance quotes for business or commercial use. We do not offer family insurance policies with fleet insurance.
How much does fleet insurance cost?
Whether you’re expanding your taxi company to include multiple cabs or if you run a haulage company, fleet insurance is a necessity – which is why we make sure the process is simple so that you can make the right choice.
